'Warrior Saints' author featured on BBC Radio 4 in discussion about Remembrance of Indian soldiers

The forgotten army? Why we should now remember the Indian soldiers who fought for Britain. Listen to Amandeep Madra and Imam Qari Asim as they join Edward Stourton in discussion about the contribution of Indian soldiers to the war effort.

In commemoration of the centenary of the armistice, Edward Stourton invites Amandeep Madra, author of Warrior Saints: Four Centuries of Sikh Military History (Vol 1) and chair of the UK Punjab Heritage Association and Imam Qari Asim of Leeds mosque to discuss the seemingly overlooked sacrifices of soldiers from across the Indian subcontinent.

In their brief discussion they touch upon the strange experiences of these men in a foreign society as well as their less than welcome reception upon returning to their homeland, where they were viewed as agents of imperial power following the rise of the independence movement.

Warrior Saints is available for purchase here and you can also buy a copy of Major Tom’s War, a recent novel published by us which features Indian soldiers during the First World War, exploring their camaraderie and relationships.
